Being born in an Indian family is the start to a life full of adventure. We can get scolded for being 15 mins late from when we were supposed to come back home but also praised for staying 15 mins more to study.

“The grass is always greener on the other side” No one relates to this more than an Indian kid. All of us reading this are lucky and privileged enough to be born in a well to do family, but that comes with the things which annoyed us the most as teenagers.

Do you remember when your mom used to run after you to see if you ate your lunch?, if you finished everything, the salad and the evening fruits are just as important as the curd or the bowl of daal.

Once you start working or move out or just plain and simple grow up, she would not be able to monitor your meals, will you miss that?

Going out with your friends for lunch but you are not getting permission for that, this won't happen, because you will make your own schedule and decide your own priorities now. If you used your parents as an excuse to bail out of plans, you got another thing coming now. Will you miss this?

More than anything you will become more independent in general, you will start doing things for yourself on your own and you will learn to manage stuff that you did not think you could do before.

You always ask your parents for money as a kid whether it's a toy or a new T-shirt, but when you grow up, you become financially stronger and do not feel like asking for money from your parents and you buy your own stuff. You budget, you save and you spend it as per what you feel is the best route to go through.

How many of us want to live alone? How many want that feeling of independence and freedom? Once you move out or if you do, you will see how much you miss your home cooked meals. How you do not like the idea of coming back to an empty house, or perhaps you will love the space and alone time you get.

My entire perspective for writing this article is this, Indian kids i.e. us are always chasing and ideating about stuff we do not have and not being grateful for what we do have. In other cases not ideating or being independent enough. There needs to be a balance, a progression and a journey of self growth that will lead you to where you desire and hope to be.
